diy: high-waisted cutoffs

here's a little diy for you guys! i've been lusting over high-waisted cutoff shorts for a long time now, and i just got tired of the crazy prices that places charge for them. i just went to goodwill and found an old pair of levis (517s from 1999!) and paid only around 8 bucks for em! take that, pricey boutiques.

all you're gonna need is a pair of jeans (girls- look through your family's clothes that they don't wear anymore. moms, sisters, aunts probably have old high-waisted jeans from the 90s that work perfectly), some good scissors, some coarse sandpaper, and a pen or pencil.

1. first things first. get your jeans and make a preliminary cut that isn't too short yet. remember, you can always cut more off, but you can't add anything back on. 

2. try them on. then with your pen, mark a little higher to where you want your inner seam (the seam that runs on the inside of your leg) to be. cut away horizontally.

3. try them on again, and this time, mark where you want your outer seam to be. cutoffs nowadays are shorter on the outside seam and get longer towards the inner seam, like this. think diagonally!

4. now fold your jeans in half so you get an equal cut on both legs. tuck your pockets in to avoid accidentally cutting them, if they're in the way. i made it so that after my final cut, my pockets would peek out a little. hold your jeans tight and make your final cut from the point you just made on the outer seam, to the end of the inner seam.

5. try your jeans on again and see how you like the length! if they're too long, then you can always cut away some more fabric.

6. now to make em look authentic. take the sandpaper and grate the hems to give it a more distressed look. this is actually a little tougher than it looks, but just keep working at it. stretch the hem too! 

distressing denim is a long process, especially if you're doing it by hand. i know that some denim companies even throw their denim into dryers with rocks to really wear them down, but i'm not about to ruin my mom's dryer for the sake of these shorts. just work at it! i know it's gonna take me a while to get these to the perfect distressed kind-of point.

7. and voila! cutoffs without breaking the bank.

feeling a little like a badass today style-wise, which is funny because i spent my entire day in scrubs and/or my bed. (okay definitely not with scrubs and in my bed, that's terrible)

today i hung and spiked my first IV bag!

i also thrifted a pair of gap khakis and a pair of levi 517s. the latter, i'm turning into some cutoffs.

as far as other things go - okay who am i kidding, there's always a little CG love in every blog post nowadays - i just downloaded poindexter and i'm really liking it so far. a little ashamed to be admitting that i just downloaded it, but there you go.

how much do i love donald glover? a lot. the answer is a lot.

had a dream last night that started somewhere in the middle of me walking with him backstage after one of his performances and we were just kind of talking and smiling and being cute and whatever. people were around us but they didn't notice (or mind). i was wearing some sort of strapless wrap dress and at one point he put his (leopard print, i kid you not. dreams are weird.) jacket around me. ONLY IN MY DREAMS.

all of a sudden he's turning to go up a stairwell and i'm following him and then alison brie (as annie edison in this dream) is jealously pleading me to not get with him or something like that. donald tells me to go into his dressing room to wait for him. next thing I know, i'm in his dressing room. i wonder what's in his jacket pockets. right pocket: receipt from some expensive clothing store. left pocket: a weird retractable pencil, small paintbrushes, and bacon.

Nothing here is really new, actually. Just a new mindset. Trying to make things better.
Changed up the blog name and the look a bit. Now this blog and my Tumblr match. I've been thinking that it's kind of hard for me to stick to things enough to make it cohesive, so this name change is an attempt to actually do something like that.

How can I describe things right now? In progress. I'm in the process of making things better. I guess I always am. A year ago, I had so much willpower. I guess it was the process of being reborn into the person I am right now, but I don't want to stop evolving. I want to be better. Things were so different then. I can honestly say that life/school has changed me so much as a person in the last year and it's such a humbling feeling. 

Been listening to almost nonstop Childish Gambino lately. Running is getting easier. Gonna make some monthly goals for myself as soon as I get my new Moleskine. Studying more. Sleeping earlier (okay maybe only on some days). But I'm definitely getting up earlier. It's time to kick things up a notch.
