missing manhattan

i keep missing manhattan more and more.

today in church i kind of zoned out and realized how close i am to everything.
for the first time, i felt like i could touch it. for the first time.
got a little flame in my heart now telling me i'm not going back.
i mean- the notion of living in NYC has always been a HUGE driving force in my life, but today i feel like it's hell bent and absolutely nothing can stop me now.

this post is probably a little bit too personal for me to be putting it up online. but, whatever.

everything is so exciting right now.
this week: studying, studying, lecture, test, practicum, careplans, last clinical :(
next week: studying, studying, studying, IAMDONALD (!!!!!!!!), last lecture, practicum
third week: studying, studying, studying, studying my face off, FINAL, studying, HESI
then break! i'm stressed, but it feels good. i think i'm more excited than stressed.

poindexter

feeling a little like a badass today style-wise, which is funny because i spent my entire day in scrubs and/or my bed. (okay definitely not with scrubs and in my bed, that's terrible)

today i hung and spiked my first IV bag!
i also thrifted a pair of gap khakis and a pair of levi 517s. the latter, i'm turning into some cutoffs.

as far as other things go - okay who am i kidding, there's always a little CG love in every blog post nowadays - i just downloaded poindexter and i'm really liking it so far. a little ashamed to be admitting that i just downloaded it, but there you go.

grind - childish gambino
definitely fell in love with this within the first 15 seconds.

life updates

“Ever since nursing school, life makes so much more sense.”
                   —Marylou

How can I describe things right now? In progress. I'm in the process of making things better. I guess I always am. A year ago, I had so much willpower. I guess it was the process of being reborn into the person I am right now, but I don't want to stop evolving. I want to be better. Things were so different then. I can honestly say that life/school has changed me so much as a person in the last year and it's such a humbling feeling.

Been listening to almost nonstop Childish Gambino lately. Running is getting easier. Gonna make some monthly goals for myself as soon as I get my new Moleskine. Studying more. Sleeping earlier (okay maybe only on some days). But I'm definitely getting up earlier. It's time to kick things up a notch.

just life

I'm taking a very-needed indefinite break from Tumblr right now. Blogspot has always been really quite peaceful in comparison. I was kind of worried about missing some good fashion/style posts or some great gems on my dashboard, but I figure if it's really great, it'll get passed around again somehow. I know I'll probably be missing Lady Gaga's new single, Born This Way, but that shouldn't be too hard to find on my own. Oh well now I'm rambling. I'm just trying to keep things going.

life lately

burning bush supper club

"I'm so excited!" should probably be the phrase of the day. We had our first "lab" day today, which meant having a lab orientation for an hour and then being let out super early. Last night I burned 5 CDs ⎯ two Cudi albums, two Bon Iver albums, and one Kanye album ⎯ for Marylou, Beverly, and Ben respectively. I think it's safe to say that giving music to other people is on my list of favorite things to do. And speaking of music, I finally got my hands on the new Bear Hands album! Case in point, SUPER EXCITED.

Never have I seen so many cute little Asian goods packed into one store! Basically everything in the store was $2 unless marked otherwise. I ended up getting myself a cream-coloured (typical) bento box, a tiny fork for my bento, and an insanely cute floral mug (see below). Marylou, Anna and I went to go get lunch afterwards at a sandwich place. I ended up knitting for Anna a bit.

(Seriously good coffee)

I did Marylou's nails last night. Pretty sure I'm going to end up doing this on myself again very soon.

My textbooks came in the mail today! Thank goodness for overnight shipping, seriously. I don't know what I'd do with myself if I had to wait to read another day.

Tried out the newspaper nails last night right on top of Essie's Eternal Optimist. It ended up showing a little fainter than I expected, but I did wash my hands before I put on a topcoat. Oh well.

forever 21 top & denim leggings, mossimo cardigan, thrifted belt, alfani boots, ecote rucksack

I don't mean to sound toolish, but I really am loving life so much lately. I feel so much more complete with school underway. And trying to really appreciate everything in my life is really making me realize how great it is. I'm cherishing it.

stupid pricey shit

ecote rucksack

After what seemed like endless waiting, the Ecote Rucksack is finally mine to cherish! I thought I was going to have to save up for it and buy it on my own, but as a gift, my mom actually ended up getting it for me. She said "but you're almost done with school!" Four semesters to go? Hardly. It's still hard to believe that in exactly one year, I'll be starting my last semester of nursing school. It seems like my life revolves around school, but it's exactly that. And I like it that way. I feel like I'll be a perpetual student until I get my DNP. (Which is okay) I just want a lot out of life and a lot out of my education. I don't think that's so wrong. Use 'em if you got 'em, right?

I've gotten some new notebooks, new writing utensils, some flashcards, and a new clipboard and I think I'm all set. I've always loved the beginnings of things. I'm excited.

On the other hand, I've been thinking almost endlessly about life and just being happy with what you have. The other day I watched Louis C.K.'s Hilarious and I'm glad that we do get it, enough to make some humor out of it. I think we just forget how lucky we are to have such good lives. No matter what emotional turmoil or whatever we're in, just remember that we're privileged to have clean water to drink and a roof over our heads. There are just some problems that really aren't problems at all. Not meaning to quote Sheryl Crow, but it's definitely about wanting what you've got. I think I've found something to work on for 2011.

Hope this semester treats everyone well.

short list of things I want

  • to wake up super early in the morning, and it still be dark outside
  • have a small breakfast while brewing coffee
  • sleepily get ready and put on some fresh clothes
  • start the drive to school and watch the sunrise over the Houston skyline
  • see people I’ve missed
  • learn new things

December 09, 2010

nine days into december

It's been a while y'all. I've been away from a lot of internet cesspools of bad energy lately and I've been... happier. Honestly. No Tumblr, no Facebook, no conflict. I've been able to kick my workout routine into an actual routine now, regardless of my impending finals. I'm getting studying done. I'm feeling better about myself. I think I see a change coming up, but I can't put my finger on it just yet.

I haven't taken pictures lately other than with my phone, but that's better than nothing right?

Our clinical professor bought us Starbucks after bailing on us one week. Good enough for me!

Something I stumbled upon in the hospital cafeteria while heating up a real lunch, and an appropriate reaction brought to you by Ben.

Fish tacos with Marylou. Definitely gonna miss this when I move to NY. No fish tacos can compare to Fish Place's.

Today marks a few nice things: Marylou's 21st birthday, a HESI exam, and the end of Health Assessment. I'm actually done with my first nursing class and it's still kind of unbelievable to me. I can't believe I'm here already. Friday is the last clinical of the semester. This time last year, I was so frustrated with everything in my academic life and now I'm just riding the wave til the end. The water couldn't be any more comforting.

giffy

Woke up around noon. I planned on getting up a little earlier to drop off a few rolls of film, but obviously sleep took priority. I slept last night with my window open, and to my disgust, it felt like summer outside. It's almost December. I deem this highly inappropriate. I went to fix myself some froyo and blueberries (with some grapes, too!) and caught up with last night's Dexter. I only have one reaction.

Gave these a try and they're great. With hummus, of course. (Sabra hummus, of course.)

For dinner, my dad made some angel-hair clam pasta. Which was delicious.

Of course, each day ends with a boatload of coursework. I have these five chapters to read before my test on Wednesday. Slightly nervous. I may or may not be nonexistant from the internet for a little bit until finals blow over. I need to remember what the feeling of getting a lot of work done in one sitting feels like.

I have a few ideas up my sleeve.

Cheers!
